George Benson to headline Tobago Jazz Experience 2009

SCARBOROUGH, Tobago: Travelers in search of a unique fusion of music and culture and one of the best beach scenes in the world are invited to attend Tobago Jazz Experience 2009.

The four-day music festival will run from Wednesday, April 22 through Sunday, April 26, 2009. Key events include Pan Jazz in D Yard, World Music Night, Beach Jazz, a Latin Jazz show and a beach jazz fiesta featuring internationally known musician George Benson.

Starting at 7 pm on Wednesday, April 22 music lovers can attend Pan Jazz in D Yard held at the Redemption Sound Setters Pan Yard in Montgomery. F

or two nights, patrons will have the chance to experience the versatility of the national instrument, the steelpan, with the smooth sounds of local musicians such as Andy Narrell, Rudy Smith and other pannists from Trinidad and Tobago. Tickets for the event are approximately $40 USD per night or $75 USD for both nights.

On Friday, April 24 beginning at 7 pm, Pigeon Point Heritage Park plays host to World Music Night with special guest performer legendary Tobagonian calypsonian, Calypso Rose and other local entertainers that include 3 Canal and Shurwayne Winchester. Tickets for this event are approximately $25 USD.

Events held on Saturday, April 25 include Jazz on D Beach at Mt Irvine’s beach facility and Beach Jazz at Speyside’s beach facility. Both events are free to the public. Additionally, Pigeon Point Heritage Park will host a Latin Jazz show that will feature top entertainers from Cuba, Dominica, Canada and Trinidad. Tickets are approximately $40 USD.

The Tobago Jazz Experience culminates on Sunday, April 25 with a beach jazz fiesta held at Pigeon Pont Heritage Park. Beginning at 1 pm, the audience will be treated to the musical styling of Grammy® Award winning artist, George Benson. Other scheduled performers include Mike Boothman, Clive Zanda, Theron Shaw and David Rudder.

Tobago Jazz Experience is hosted by the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) in collaboration with Tobago Hotels and Tourism Association (THTA), Mt Irvine Bay Hotel, Production One and Pan Trinbago.
