Las Vegas Motor Speedway annually welcomes over 100,000 NASCAR fans to this event, bringing in the cream of the crop to compete for points in The Chase for the Sprint Cup. Over the years since its inception in 1998 the race formerly known as the UAW-Dodge 400 has been a springboard for drivers like Jimmie Johnson (3 time winner), Jeff Gordon (2 time winner), and Matt Kenseth (2 time winner), to get the jump on the rest of the pack.
The Vegas Motor Speedway has consistently been one of the hottest NASCAR tour stops in America, and there's little question why. The Tracks property also has a paved short track called The Bullring, a 1/2 mile clay oval dirt track and a drag strip on site. The Las Vegas Motor Speedway, home to the famous Neon Garage, has the distinction of being the first completely new superspeedway to be built in the southwest region of the United States in more than 20 years. It will indeed have a different feel this year as the track underwent major renovations since they last visited the 1.5-mile oval last March. The banking in the turns was previously 12 degrees; however, track officials expect the racing to improve now that the banking has been elevated to 20 degrees.
The speedway just recently constructed the Dale Earnhardt Terrace, a new and fabulous 22,000-seat grandstand overlooking the front straightaway, which opened for the 2004 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400. In 2005, the speedway announced the construction of the 14,000-seat Richard Petty Terrace, which just opened for the 2006 event. These newly constructed terraces are bringing more and more fame and publicity to this already popular raceway.
