The month-long general strike in Martinique has come to an end.
Madeleine de Grandmaison, chairwoman of the Martinique Tourism Authority, issued the following statement celebrating the official resolution of a general strike in effect on the island over the past few weeks: “It gives me great pleasure to confirm the official end to the general strike in Martinique. The island’s shops and schools have re-opened, and life for the general population is quickly returning back to normal.
As I have stated previously, stay over visits to Martinique were largely unaffected by the strike. Airport operations were never disrupted, and all of our hotels remained open, accommodating guests throughout the entire strike.”
There was good news in the cruise sector as well, as the Martinique Tourism Authority, the Martinique Chamber of Commerce and the Martinique Cruise Association joined with ground operators, taxi drivers, vendors and restaurant owners to successfully host three ships during the strike.
